Ross can play the intriguing Donald Ross
Memorial course at the Highlands. The Ross
is Kircher’s ambitious tribute to his favorite
architect, replicas of 17 holes from famous
Ross designs around the country. There is
also a copy of a hole from Ross’ home course,
Royal Dornoch Golf Club in Scotland.
The Arthur Hills Course, named after its
designer and the Moor by Michigan’s William Newcomb, completes the lineup at the
Highlands.
Across the bay from Harbor Springs, one
of the Midwest’s most glamorous properties,
the 27-hole Bay Harbor Golf Club has three
of the most diverse nines in golf.
The Links nine plays along a bluff, 150
feet above Little Traverse Bay. The Quarry
runs through 40-foot gorges of rock walls
left over from mining during its former
life as a rock quarry. The Preserve winds
through the woods, punctuated by tall
grasses, wild flowers and wetlands.
With the panoramic views over the bay and
out to Lake Michigan, few would argue that
Bay Harbor can rightly be referred to as the
Pebble Beach of the Midwest.
With all the great golf found in the region,
